                         BALUYEVSKY Yuriy Nikolaevich

Born on February 4, 1947 in the city of Truskavets, Lviv region, Ukrainian SSR. In 1970 he graduated from the Leningrad Higher Combined-Arms Command School named after SMKirov. He served as commander of a motorized rifle platoon, commander of a motorized rifle company in a heavy tank division of the 28th combined army of the Belarusian Military District. Then he served as an officer in the operational department of the army headquarters in the Belarusian Military District, a senior officer in the operational department in the army headquarters in the Group of Soviet Forces in the GDR. 

In 1980 he graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze. He served in the posts of senior officer of the 1st department of the operational management of the headquarters of the Leningrad Military District, senior officer-operator, and head of the group of the operational management of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces.

In 1990 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces named after KE Voroshilov with a gold medal. He served as an officer for special assignments of the Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR, Deputy Chief of Direction, Chief of Directorate of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Chief of Staff - 1st Deputy Commander of the Group of Russian Forces in the Transcaucasus.

From 1995 to 2004 he served in the positions of the head of the operational department - deputy chief of the Main operational department, head of the Main operational department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

From July 2004 - Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

From December 2006 - Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Awards: Order "For Services to the Fatherland", II Art., Order "For Services to the Fatherland", III Art. (with the image of swords), the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree. (with the image of swords), Order "For Military Merit", Order "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR", Art. III, Order of Honor and other medals.
