CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces: 10 years in a single battle formation

04.02.2019

Today the Collective Rapid Reaction Force (CRRF) of the CSTO is 10 years old.

Created on a multilateral basis in accordance with the Decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council of February 4, 2009, the CRRF is an important component of the military component of the Organization and a universal tool for responding to modern challenges and threats.

The KSOR includes the most combat-ready and mobile units, military units and the formation of special forces of all six CSTO member states. They are equipped with modern and compatible weapons, military and special equipment. The CRRF is a component of the constant readiness of the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system, the total number of which is about 18 thousand people.

Before making a decision on the application of the CRRF, the tasks of planning their deployment and coordinating joint training are entrusted to the CSTO Joint Headquarters. Since the creation of this important component, the CSTO Joint Headquarters, in collaboration with the interested ministries and departments of the CSTO member states, systematically worked to improve the structure and composition of the CORF, increase their combat potential, equip formations, military units and special forces units with modern weapons, military and special equipment.

Particular attention is paid to the preparation of the CSTO CRRF contingents to perform tasks for the intended purpose. Every year, as part of a joint operational-strategic exercise "Combat Brotherhood" with the CORF, at the stage of resolving an armed conflict, exercises are held under the common name "Interaction".

In the course of these exercises, the coordination of government bodies and units formed on a multinational basis is carried out. The CSTO CRRF governing bodies receive practice in organizing joint operations and improve the skills in managing the CRRF contingents when it is administered, and the personnel in joint actions when performing tasks for the intended purpose.
